Hibi 日々
Terms of use
Last updated: August 30, 2026
By downloading or using Hibi you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, delete the app.
The app
Hibi is an iOS app that teaches Japanese characters through a daily lockscreen widget and spaced repetition review. It is provided by Freddy Fang, an individual developer, and distributed through the Apple App Store.
Your account
There isn't one. Hibi has no sign-in, no password and no account server, and nothing in the app is unlocked by identifying yourself. Earlier versions offered Sign in with Apple; that screen is gone, and anything it stored is deleted from your device the first time you open this version.
The one place Hibi asks you for anything about you is optional: a field on the optional email screen in setup ("Master Japanese Kana"), and the same field in Settings under Email updates, where you can give an email address if you want study tips and product updates. It is not a login and it creates no account. You can change or remove it at any time — in Settings, or under the same name on the subscription screen, so that taking it back never depends on having subscribed — and every part of the app works the same whether you give it or not. What happens to an address you give is described in the privacy policy.
Subscriptions
Hibi is a subscription app. There is no free tier. A subscription covers the whole app: every character, every review, stroke order animation, tracing, audio, and both widgets. Every plan starts with a free trial.
- Yearly. 3 days free, then $49.99 per year.
- Weekly. 3 days free, then $6.99 per week.
Prices are in U.S. dollars and may differ in other storefronts. Terms that Apple requires us to state plainly:
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period, at the price of the plan you selected.
- You can manage subscriptions and turn off auto-renew in Settings, under your Apple Account, then Subscriptions.
- If you buy a subscription during a free trial, any unused portion of the trial is forfeited.
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds directly.
Restoring purchases
Use "Restore Purchases" on the subscription screen. Your subscription follows your Apple ID, so it works on any device signed in to the same account.
Acceptable use
Do not reverse engineer, decompile, or redistribute the app, its content database, or its assets except as permitted by the open licenses those assets carry. Do not use the app for anything unlawful.
Content and accuracy
Hibi's learning content is compiled from open data sets: JMdict and KANJIDIC2 (Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group, Creative Commons), KanjiVG (CC BY-SA 3.0), and Tatoeba (CC BY 2.0). Those sets are maintained by volunteers and can contain errors. Hibi is a study aid, not a certification program, and no outcome on any exam, including the JLPT, is promised. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will fix it.
The app's own code, design, and copy are ours. The bundled typefaces, Noto Serif JP, Inter, and Inter Tight, ship under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
Your data
Your progress lives on your device and is never uploaded. What leaves the device is your subscription status, which goes to Adapty under an anonymous identifier so the app knows whether your subscription is active; anonymous usage counts, which you can switch off in Settings; and your email address, if you typed one into the optional field. The full account is in the privacy policy. Because there is no server copy of your progress, if you delete the app or lose the device, the progress is gone. We cannot recover it.
Availability and changes
Hibi is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. We do not promise it will be free of bugs or available without interruption. Features may change between versions. To the fullest extent allowed by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim.
We may update these terms. Material changes will be posted here with a new date and, where the change affects what you pay, surfaced in the app.
Termination
You may stop using Hibi at any time by deleting it. We may end your access if you breach these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Apple
Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide support for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
